I normally avoid New Year’s resolutions. Typically they end up being well-intentioned but unrealistic. Sure, you may want to lose weight. You may really want to eliminate clutter from your life. You may honestly think that you’ll be able to turn over that new leaf on a dime, leaving years of habit-building in the dust. Uh uh. Doesn’t happen. Having a New Year’s resolution is like starting the year by setting yourself up for failure. Nope, not for me.

Well, OK, so maybe this year I’ve changed my mind. After all, if the resolution is to do something you really enjoy, don’t do very often and have little excuse for not doing, wouldn’t that make it pretty much impossible to bungle it? Sure, that sounds logical.

So this year I have a resolution. I hereby resolve that in 2007 I will see more live music. My target is one show a month. Maybe I’ll see more, maybe less, but I’ll try for one. Thankfully I live down the street from a great venue (which I’ve yet to visit…ahem), so if it’s getting close the end of the month and no show has been attended all I need to do is pop down there and see whoever’s playing.

I’m off to a good start so far. A friend and I already have tickets to see Tim Reynolds at the Sweetwater Saloon in Mill Valley on January 30th and there might be another gig lined up for mid-month.

Yeah, this is a resolution which might actually work.

I resolve to move to California this year.

  2. Again, an easy resolution which you’ll enjoy (trust me) fulfilling. And you guys can help me fulfill my resolution once you get here.

  3. Huh. The reference I made to this post in a later post? Got attached as a comment. Kooky. Not sure whether I like that “feature” or not…
