It all started with a call to Tom…

by VM Brasseur on November 17th, 2008

To say I’ve been busy lately would be putting it mildly. I haven’t had time to do laundry let alone keep up with friends. Once some of the pressure dissipated I took the opportunity to give Tom a call since as far as he knew I’d dropped off the face of the Earth months previous. It had been too long and we chatted away for almost two hours. Good times.

Near the end of the conversation the topic of the election came up. Tom, it seems, had been considering taking a day off and hopping the train to DC to be part of the festivities on January 20th. “There are going to be millions of people and they’re all going to be very happy. It’s going to be memorable.”

Hard to argue with a statement like that. I mean, there are going to be millions of people and they are going to be very happy and it is going to be a historic event and it will be the chance of a lifetime.

Despite the fact that I’m desperately trying to pay down debts and be responsible and all that sort of uninteresting stuff and ignoring the additional fact that “impulsive” is not an adjective often accurately used to describe me, I couldn’t deny that chances are very good that it would be worth it to spend a couple more months paying on the credit card so I could go and experience this firsthand.

So, um, I’m going to DC in January. Tom and I will traipse around town with the rest of the revelers, partying like it’s 2009. I might even wave a cute little flag.

Now the new question is: does anyone out there have any connections who could get us a pair of tickets to the swearing-in ceremony? Right now tickets to any of the events can’t be had for love or money. Well, OK, they can be had for money but I’m not about to pay $40K for one ticket. A ticket which was originally free. I’m all for capitalism but sheesh… That’s just taking it a few dozen steps too far.

  1. Will you be there for the previous weekend? I can’t get the actual Inauguration Day off from school, but Eric and I might be able to do a day trip down over the weekend to hang out with you…

  2. (Monday is MLK day, which I do have off work, so that’s an option too.)

  3. I’m arriving bright and early the morning of the Saturday before and leaving the day after Inauguration. We should definitely meet up, if you guys can make it down.

    Hey Victoria!

Looking forward to January. I didn’t see the scalpers prices, so yeah, I luv ya, but can’t afford $80K for us to attend an event. Sigh… too many people who can will snatch up those tickets.

Well, we’ll be able to wander the streets looking beautiful and be ready to crash any parties that invite us in.

Let me know the flight plans (eventually) so I can pick you up at the airport.
