I live in the wrong darn state

A friend IM’d me a link to this house in East Lansing{.broken_link}. Included in the features are such things as…

• Nigh on 2K sq. ft. of space
• A pricetag of $192,500

This last point, according to the posting, would give me an estimated monthly payment of $908 per month.

$908 is significantly less than I pay right now for renting my apartment.

Compare, if you will, with charming little “piece of history”{.broken_link} in Petaluma, CA. It features:

• 1 bedroom
• 1 bath
• 1 car garage
• “potential”
• A pricetag of $385,000

I’m not even going to bother figuring out what the monthly payments would be on that one, as the property isn’t worth the effort. In its favor is the fact that it’s on the nicer side of town and appears to be up on a hill which implies there may be a decent view. If there were such a thing as a crack-shack in West Petaluma, this would appear to qualify. And it could be all mine for the bargain-basement price of almost $390K. Oh rapture. Oh providence. Oh sweet mystery of life at last I’ve found you.

Yeah, I’m gonna be one cranky embittered gal once I start my house hunting, I tell ya.
