- Title: Clarkesworld Magazine Issue 195
- Author: Various
- ISBN: n/a
I’m really enjoying all of these F/SF magazines I subscribed to a few months ago. The diversity of authors is fun, and the stories are usually just the right length to read in bed before falling asleep.
This latest Clarkesworld featured a number of stories with AI, which isn’t my fave topic. Still, these stories were original and interesting. No complaints.
The story Upstart by Lu Ban (translated by Blake Stone-Banks) was a grim story where capitalism turns its hand to “solving” a population crisis and the fallout from that. I found myself quite attached to the main characters by the end and look forward to more stories from this author.
Now that I think of it, there was rather a lot of grimness in this issue. I didn’t dislike any of the stories, but most of them weren’t the best to be reading before sleep. I had some pretty weird dreams while working my way through this issue.
Still, a good time was had by all and the magazine continues to deliver far more value than its low subscription price implies.
