It’s not often that I purchase yarn with the express purpose of making something for myself, but this scarf is the exception.

The yarn came, of all places, from Target and was $1.00/ball. I bought six. Less than three were used in this project so I still have plenty to play with later.

There was no pattern for this scarf. It’s a simple block net (chain 3, double crochet 1, lather, rinse, repeat) chosen to help show off the interesting texture of the yarn itself. My hope was to make a scarf which was more fashion than function for a change and I think I succeeded. It’s very long but I’ve not measured it to get a specific length for it. I know only that it’s longer than I am tall.

The glass beads on the fringe were my first experiment with bead crochet. It was lucky that the beads I chose happened to have holes just barely large enough to allow them to be threaded onto the yarn. In retrospect, I wish I’d made the fringe about half again as long so that the beads would dangle a bit more prominently. But overall I’m pleased with how the scarf turned out and look forward to wearing it to dinner next weekend.
