Yesterday I caught a matinee of District 9. My nutshell review:
In truth I don’t feel I can accurately express my feelings about this movie yet. It was very striking, both visually and emotionally, and extremely well executed on both fronts as well. At points it was almost sickening in its portrayal of the cruelty one group can inflict upon another (and the ways that this behavior can escalate).
Aside from that I don’t think I can comment. Not only do I not want to risk spoilers to the [albeit meagre] readership but also I don’t think I could do so accurately without a second viewing of the film. There’s a lot going on in there and I believe I missed a lot while dealing with the shock of what was playing out on screen.
That said, I do recommend this movie for all who need a movie which extends beyond the usual vapid pap which is coming out of Hollywood these days.
Just…um…don’t bring the kids.
