I picked this one up because I wanted yet more intrinsic motivation to get back out there walking again. I guess I got that, but not nearly as much as I’d hoped. For me, I think the problem was that this is a popsci book written by a scientist rather than by a journalist, as most of the popsci that I read are.
This book had lots of great information. O’Mara obviously knows and cares about this stuff. And it’s generally well written, as well. But it never captured my attention the way most journalist-penned works do. Maybe it was a lack of a cohesive narrative throughout the book, or its tone, or who knows what.
I mean, it was a worthy read, don’t get me wrong. I just didn’t get as much out of it as I’d expected and that’s always a let down even though my inflated expectations are not the author’s fault.
