less than 1 minute read

I was looking forward to this book. Magic set in an Egyptian-based world? Sounds like fun! The reality didn’t match the expectation.

I either actively disliked or couldn’t bring myself to care about the characters. The magic was minimal and not especially important, acting more like a metaphor for Yet Another Way the society diminished women. By the time I reached the middle of the book, the plot was still slow and boring.

A shame, as this is the first of a 2-book series. It would’ve been nice to have another title to look forward to. Instead, it will return to the library only half read and quickly forgotten.
